From the 19th-century Victorian era to contemporary designers like Martin Margiela and Raf Simons,

this book published by the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp explores the relationship between fashion and interior design from a gender perspective.

In the late 19th century, bourgeois women adorned their bodies and homes with drapes, fringes, and ruffles.

Resisting such excessive ornamentation, many designers

developed fashion and interiors as part of meticulously conceived

artworks.

Paul Poiret and Jeanne Lanvin were inspired by this approach,

and it also influenced modernist architects such as Adolf Loos, Lilly Reich,

and Le Corbusier.

This history is reflected in the fashion of many contemporary designers, including Ann Demeulemeester, Raf Simons, and Martin Margiela.
