This book is the first serious critical examination of Owens's work, chronicling how his unparalleled world view has evolved over nearly three decades.

Still one of the boldest and most influential designers today, Owens—whose aesthetic has often been described as "grunge meets glamour"—has cultivated a devoted international following. In his work, elegance and rawness coexist, revealing a preoccupation with structural transformation and movement. Sheer, flowing forms are juxtaposed with opaque, angular shapes, while experiments in formal invention are further enhanced by an intense devotion to new and at times exotic materials.

This book is timed to coincide with his first comprehensive exhibition, opening in the summer of 2025 at the Palais Galliera in Paris, an exhibition whose scale and scope will appeal to long-time fans and first-time viewers alike. Owens will create a temporary installation of numerous works within the majestic nineteenth-century palace, reconfiguring the museum space anew.

The book constructs a visual narrative with chapters interleaved between the concepts of the exhibition and the precious works it contains. The curatorial essays at the beginning and end of the volume attempt to articulate Owens’s multidisciplinary and even architectural approach to creation.
